How to Work With YouTube Comments: Replies, Moderation and Strategy in 2026

Replies, moderation, strategy: how to build a dialogue and strengthen trust

Why Comments Matter More Than They Seem

Many people underestimate the “Comments” block under a video. They shouldn’t:

YouTube counts them as an engagement signal, and viewers treat them as a reason to stay or leave.

Comments help you:

  • Understand what hooked the audience
  • Identify pain points and questions (fuel for new videos)
  • Strengthen trust in the creator
  • Increase the chances of the video getting into recommendations

Even with small traffic, working with comments well can speed up channel growth.

Types of Comments, and How to React to Them

1. Positive

“Thank you, it was very useful!”

“I finally understood how this works.”

What to do:

— Thank them (personally, if possible)

— Ask a clarifying question

— Stress that it is important and pleasant

*Such replies raise loyalty and encourage others to write.

2. Questions

“How does this work in case X?”

“Can this be applied to a business in field Y?”

What to do:

— Answer clearly and to the point

— A good question → an idea for the next video

— Add a call to action: “I cover this in more detail in the next video. Subscribe so you don’t miss it.”

*Answering questions = a signal of expertise.

3. Doubts and Objections

“I think that’s not always the case.”

“I had a different experience.”

What to do:

— Don’t argue aggressively

— Calmly explain your position

— A good argument → discuss it in your content

*A disagreement is not a threat but a chance to show depth.

4. Negativity and Trolling

“Nonsense,” “Who are you anyway?” and worse.

What to do:

— Assess whether there is anything constructive

— Delete or hide toxic comments (YouTube allows it)

— Don’t get into squabbles

*Remember: your channel = your territory. Keep it clean.

How to Build a Systematic Way of Working With Comments

1. Set Aside Time

10–15 minutes a day to:

  • Reply to fresh comments
  • Pin an important one
  • Delete spam and toxicity
  • Get inspired by ideas

*Consistency is the key to a community.

2. Pin the Right Comments

— Valuable insights

— Questions you want to draw attention to

— Your own comment with extra info or a link

*A pinned comment is not just a technical tool but an entry point into a dialogue.

3. Create a Culture in the Comments

— Invite dialogue at the end of the video

— Ask people to share their experience

— Post your own thoughts under the video

*Comments come alive when you are an active participant.

What Else Matters

  • In the video description you can add: “I read and reply to all comments, so write your opinion!”
  • In the early stages of a channel every comment matters, even just “Thank you.”
  • Comments can be used as a source of new scripts, ideas and series.

An Example Phrase for the End of a Video:

“Your experience is very important. Write whether you’ve come across this. I read all the comments and often reply personally.”
