Your channel got into the Partner Program, and then AdSense begins: a linking error, a PIN that never arrives, confusion between accounts. The money is earned, but you can’t get it.
AdSense problems are almost always solvable. Below are the three most common situations from my practice.
How YouTube and AdSense fit together
- One person, one AdSense account. It’s an AdSense rule: several accounts for one payee aren’t allowed.
- You can link several channels to one AdSense. A second account for a second channel isn’t needed.
- Earnings go to AdSense, and from there to your bank once the balance reaches the payment threshold.
- To get paid you need to verify your identity and address (the PIN) and submit tax info.
Problem 1. AdSense won’t link to the channel
Typical symptoms: linking from YouTube Studio throws an error, and the AdSense site redirects to a help page. The creator tries different browsers — nothing helps.
An example from practice: a creator couldn’t link AdSense and had tried several browsers. We checked the security settings and the environment the linking ran in, and it worked the same day (case).
What to check before contacting support:
- you’re signed in to the right Google account, not another one;
- browser extensions and blockers aren’t interfering with the linking window;
- you start the linking from YouTube Studio, not the other way round;
- you don’t already have another AdSense account the channel should be linked to.
Problem 2. The PIN doesn’t arrive
When your earnings reach the verification threshold, AdSense mails a PIN to your address. Without it, payments don’t come. The letter takes weeks and sometimes gets lost.
What to do:
- Check the address in AdSense: accuracy, language, postal code.
- If there’s no letter after 2–3 weeks, request a new PIN. The number of re-requests is limited.
- If the PIN still doesn’t arrive, use the alternative verification in AdSense Help: usually a request with documents confirming your identity and address.
In my practice a creator waited four weeks for a PIN with monetization switched off. The alternative verification path worked. The key is not to wait for months but to move to the alternative when the standard path doesn’t work.
Problem 3. Multiple accounts and channels
A common situation: a creator has two channels and two AdSense accounts and doesn’t know which to keep. The advice is simple: don’t delete accounts “just in case”. First work out which AdSense is verified, where the earnings are and which channel is linked where. Then link all channels to the one verified account. A deleted account with earnings is harder to recover than relinking a channel.
Don’t forget taxes
So that YouTube doesn’t withhold the maximum US tax from payouts, you need to submit tax info in AdSense. I covered how it works for creators outside the US in YouTube tax info for creators outside the US.
If AdSense doesn’t work out at all
Sometimes connecting or keeping your own AdSense just doesn’t work. Then you can still earn through a media network without your own AdSense. How it works: Earn on YouTube without AdSense.
What next
Almost all AdSense problems are solved by acting in order and not multiplying accounts. If you’re stuck on linking, the PIN or account confusion, in a consultation I’ll review the situation and point you to the shortest path to payouts.
